As part of our commitment to providing students with real world industry experience, we organized a field trip to the Port of Tacoma. Students had the opportunity to observe daily port operations and gain firsthand insight into the transportation and logistics industry. A highlight of the visit was meeting with an experienced heavy haul driver, who gave an in depth tour of his 10 axle combination and discussed the specialized techniques, planning, and safety practices required for oversized and overweight loads. He also showcased his Peterbilt 389, explaining its features, capabilities, and the role it plays in heavy haul operations. This experience allowed students to connect classroom instruction with real world applications while gaining valuable knowledge from a seasoned professional in the trucking industry.
